spring and hope = bahar and omid | March 2012

Over here we only catch a glimpse of the power of young people fighting for their rights only a few hours away. We are spectators of blurred cellphone video footage at best, while for other people the world is changing.

Two young german actors represent the stories of the iranian brother and sister Bahar and Omid and confront themselves with a life between repression and hope. They share the stage with the iranian jazz musician Amir Nasr.

"I feel lonely. On one side there is the world, I mean, Europe and the USA, they think we are all terrorists and uncivilized,  and on the other side there is this government where we can’t even say what we want, that prohibit us to have our own opinion.”

Bahar | 24 | Tehran

All the texts were documented in Tehran in June of 2011. They were then translated and transcribed without revision. We started the rehearsals with 120 pages of material.

where is my voice - scenic reading | December 2012

In the scenic reading of „wo ist meine stimme“ (where is my voice/vote), two young german actors lend their voices to their age-mates in a far-away country and tell their stories. Amir Nasr, a guitarrist and composer, comments and intervenes in an improvisational manner.

By intertwining the levels of storytelling, the similarities aswell as the differences to our life become apparent. They tell of restless present times, stuck between memories and a hopeful look into the future.

Instead of the constantly recurring images of the daily news, the  stories of „wo ist meine stimme“ put the faces of the people back into our focus.

Letter to EU Heads of State and Governments | January 2013

Time to put an urgent reminder in the calendars of our national leaders!

In November 2012 the national leaders of all EU Member States failed to reach an agreement about the next EU budget (2014-2020) at an extraordinary EU Summit in Brussels.

This Thursday and Friday, the 7th and 8th of February, our national leaders are meeting in Brussels to debate the budget again.

In connection with the November summit, more than 6.000 letters were sent to our national leaders via our campaign website.

This week’s summit will be the last chance for our national leaders to finalize and adopt a budget in time for its launch in January 2014. Their decisions will impact our common future and it is time to put an urgent reminder in their calendars. Visit www.wearemore.eu and send the letter to your Head of State and/or Government again + encourage colleagues and friends to do the same.

Read and download Culture Action Europe and the European Cultural Foundations full joint statement on the EU summit here.

They are back. On the 2nd of May, the performers returned from their research trips in Iran and Israel. Right after, on the 3rd and 4th of May they told us of their experience, and we listened to some excerpts of their extensive and fascinating footage. Together with David Russo (choreographer) their stories were put into movement, so we could already research performative possibilities.

brothers in arms | May 2013

brothers in arms | November 2013

It‘s been more than a year since I started making efforts to obtain public funding for this project. Ironically, even though we are generally appreciated and the „courage“ of the project is being praised, we have not been publicly funded so far. The entire team has been investing so much work already and we all just want this project to come out now. This is why we created a crowdfunding campaign and I have to say, the more I think about it, the better I like the idea of it. Because with this project you can support an idea: We want to deepen the understanding of global conflicts by granting insights into exemplary stories. We are building a bridge between our audience and our interviewees in Iran and Israel.

Please have a look at our campaign.

brothers in arms | February 2014

The first phase of rehearsals is finished now. It‘s been a prodcutive and constructive coollaboration and, although there is still much to be done, we are confident and satisfied with the outcome of those three weeks. We will continue on the 1st of February 2014.

Our crowdfunding campaign went very well and since the beginning of the rehearsals, we also received some more institutional funding. We are grateful and happy, that we now have the necessary means to produce.

PairshapePopUp Performance | Schauspiel Hannover | 29. and 30. of Oct 2016

Insight into the research process for the making of „Privacy“.

„Every eleven seconds a single falls in love on PARSHIP.“ This is the slogan advertizing the online-dating platform. As part of the research for the performance „Privacy“, director Ana Zirner created a PARSHIP profile. She answered 79 questions to have an algorithm create her 40 page personality analysis. She has not yet read the results. In the PAIRSHAPE PopUp Performance Ana will be confronted with them for the first time. Unrehearsed she will read from the personality analysis and two dancers will interpret her profile in movement. How accurate are the estimates of the computer? And can a personality profile help in finding a partner?

With: Ana Zirner (reading), Jasmine Ellis and Katrin Schafitel (dance), Martina Missel (host), Sound: Jan Faszbender, Tech: Rainer Ludwig

Privacy | 26 - 29 of November 2016

Life without digitally connected devices is now unimaginable to us. And, if we are being honest, we wouldn‘t want to live without them. We trust them with parts of our most intimate communication and we outsource skills like orientation, memory, accountability, and self-estimation. At the same time it is no secret that our personal data is being digitally collected, saved and processed. Through our daily online-behavior we are feeding the algorithms that quantify us in the name of progress. The simplicity of the norms that are hereby created serve as a motivator to optimize ourselves within their favor. Do we like this? Are we fully conscious of it? And how do we want it to continue?

„Privacy“ tells the fictional story of MIA and FINN, a young couple that meets online. It talks about possible effects on our life and privacy and investigates our digital responsibility.

faith | opening in Memmingen 3rd of June 2017 | in Munich on the 7th and 9th of July 2017

Faith has a bad reputation these days: fanatics abuse it to conquer territory or for killing frenzies, wars are being waged in it‘s name. Societies use their faith to marginalize themselves, individuals are marked by the affiliation with their faith. But we all believe in something. Wether it is God, the family, traditional values, Bayern München or homeopathy. And actually, there‘s something very nice to it, this faith that can move mountains, can bring about community or at least give hope to one‘s life. satellit produktion is researching experiences with belief and collecting personal statements of faith. Which part does it play in the lives of people today? Which hopeful stories can be told? And can they explain, why the positive virtue of faith can so easily turn into something destructive?

Salt & Bread | Theater Ulm | opening 4th of November 2017

There are about 123.000 people currently living in Ulm. Whether they‘ve been there for generations or are new arrivals, whether happy of unhappy, young or old: they all make the society of this city. The identity of this society is significantly built through practicing tradition together. Rituals and customs serve as a wonderful gateway to understanding a society. They might seem strange at first, but traditional rituals usually provoke our curiosity. At a time when the AfG (german far-right party) is gaining grounds and in many cities people protest to „protect the cultur of the occident, we ask: What traditions actually make us who we are? How do they develop? And where can they be seen in Ulm today?
